Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 April 2026
BritCalc (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use britcalc.com, how we use it, and your rights. If you have any questions, contact us at hello@britcalc.com.
The short version: All calculations run in your browser — your financial figures are never sent to our servers. We collect only anonymised usage data via Google Analytics and serve ads via Google AdSense. We do not sell your personal data.
1. Who We Are
BritCalc is a free web-based service providing UK tax and financial calculators. The site is operated independently and is not affiliated with HMRC or any UK government body.
For privacy matters, contact: hello@britcalc.com
2. What Data We Collect
2a. Calculator Inputs
All calculator inputs (salary, tax figures, property values, etc.) are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. This data is never transmitted to BritCalc or any third-party server. We have no access to the numbers you enter.
2b. Usage Data (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 collects:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Approximate geographic location (country/region level only)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- How you arrived at the site (search engine, direct link, referral)
- Events such as calculator interactions (anonymised)
This data is collected via cookies and is sent to Google's servers. Google Analytics data is anonymised — we cannot identify individual users. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
2c. Advertising Data (Google AdSense)
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to BritCalc or other websites. This is governed by Google's advertising policies. You can opt out of personalised advertising at google.com/settings/ads.
2d. Contact Form / Email
If you contact us via email at hello@britcalc.com, we collect your email address and the content of your message solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your details with third parties.
3. Cookies
BritCalc uses the following types of cookies:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — used to measure site traffic and usage patterns. These persist for up to 2 years.
- Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — used to serve relevant advertisements. Duration varies.
You can manage or disable cookies via your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies will not prevent you from using BritCalc's calculators, as they do not depend on cookies to function.
For more information about how Google uses cookies in advertising, see policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Understand which calculators and pages are most useful (analytics)
- Improve the accuracy and usability of our tools
- Display relevant advertisements to support free access to the site
- Respond to enquiries sent via email
We do not use your data to build individual profiles, sell it to third parties, or use it for any purpose beyond operating and improving BritCalc.
5. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), our legal bases for processing personal data are:
- Legitimate interests — for analytics data used to improve the service
- Consent — for advertising cookies (via your browser or device settings)
- Contractual necessity — for responding to direct email enquiries
6. Data Retention
Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to resolve the enquiry, typically no longer than 12 months. We do not maintain any other user databases or records.
7. Third-Party Services
BritCalc uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Analytics — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdSense — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers; this may transmit your IP address to Google
- Cloudflare Pages — our hosting provider; see cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
8. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Restriction — request that we restrict processing of your data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@britcalc.com. We will respond within 30 days. Given that we collect minimal identifiable data, most requests will be resolved quickly. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
9. Children's Privacy
BritCalc is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of BritCalc after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
